    First Africa Post!

I decided to change this post because I just realized it's in the "travel" section... clearly I just made this account haha.

I'm flying from the US in a few weeks...and this is the longest flight I've ever been on! It would be quicker to fly to Germany and back!

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep myself occupied on such a long flight? Magazines will only last me so long.

    How long is the flight?

Besides personal items you bring along -a book you are currently reading, iPod, magazines,etc-; the in- flight entertainment system will keep you occupied, entertained -Duh!-, and perhaps and hopefully will make your flight as enjoyable as possible.

They normally have recent movies, popular TV shows and documentaries, music for all tastes, video clips, etc.
I'm sure you will be OK, unless you are waaay too picky.

My mom and her husband flew from USA to Tanzania and my mom was all freaked out about being on a plane for that long!

Entertainment is usually pretty good on those long haul flights, I would recommend SNACKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring salty and sweet snacks. Crunchy and soft. Seriously you'll want some variety. Also a water bottle (fill it up after security). I would recommend headphones that go outside your ears, not earbuds. Those earbuds start to hurt my ears after a few hours. But maybe that's just me. And I like to get aisle seats so that I can stretch my legs out. I prefer that to a window I can sleep against.

      Have fun!

When I flew from Helsinki to Senegal I found it great to stay up most of the night before and sleep all the way from Istanbul to Dakar (except for the dinner...) I much prefer sleeping to doing things that will get me bored eventually. Besides, I'm always tired after flying and I find sleeping during the actual flight makes the recovery period shorter

I usually just bring 1-2 good books and a crossword puzzle book on long flights. Then I end up barely reading them, doing one or 2 crossword puzzles and just watching all the in-flight movies and sleeping. I like to bring different layers of clothing and a scarf because I often get cold on flights (especially if I'm next to the window).

I try to sleep, but sometimes that just isn't a possibility. Last time I brought a bunch of embroidery floss to make bracelets and a portable gaming system (Nintendo DS) that I charged right before I left to provide me with entertainment. I also like to take pictures out of the airplane-- I've flown over some really interesting sights that I'll never see again!

I generally bring magazines, books, my ipod ect. However the books never get read, the magazines get lost in a seat pocket somewhere and my ipod dies after about 5 or 6 hours of my trip. Sometimes before I even get on the longest leg of the trip haha. Im then left to my own devices. Generally going crazy and day dreaming, squirming and all around annoying everyone around me.

On one flight i took a few too many gravol after not sleeping for 48 hours due to bad weather and delayed flights, and passed out before the plane was even boarded and didn't wake up until after we had landed and the flight attendant was shaking me. (12 hour flight) It wasn't so much of a nap as a coma. I woke up with drool all over my face and in a daze. I'm sure i snored the whole way too. I did the same thing on a 24 hour train ride once and slept for 16 hours straight. I really don't recommend this though. Gravol to sleep I'm sure is not the most healthy thing for your body.

If you have a journal though, bring that. On one flight i spent some time writing in my journal and that really helped passed the time, and now looking back on it I get to see all of my emotions, worries, thoughts ect. about the pending trip!

Acrosstheocean! Oh I understand it will be a very long flight and if you will alone so it will be going on more boring and long. Well! To remove your loneliness you can take some snacks with you, read any magazine, watch any movie or song on your tablet, I pad, cell phone or laptop. I hope it will be the source of great entertainment for you. What you will say about it?
