    Hi there,

So my boyfriend and I have been going out for nearly a year now. We originally met online, but since then have become inseparable, and have been living together for several months. However, he is only here in Australia for a year for a university exchange - and will be returning home to Ireland quite soon. I'm absolutely dreading it.

He will be returning to finish his final year of studies - after which he says he's not sure what he's going to do. I still have two more years of study, and have also missed the opportunity to go on exchange.

We've said that we're going to try LDR, but I think what's really itching at the back of my brain is that with our futures a trajectory so uncertain - I just don't know where we're going to go. He's a very "go with the flow" kind of person, and whenever I bring it up he says that we just have to live in the moment and enjoy it right now. Despite how this sounds - I've never doubted his commitment, he's very loving and dedicated. It's just hard to not be so upset when he'll be moving away indefinitely, with no clear path of what we're going to do in the future.

We're planning to see each other again at Christmas, where I'll go over and visit him and his family at Christmas. However beyond that - we have nothing planned. Which isn't unusual, it's just that as a student I have a) very limited funds, and b) a large chunk of my time dedicated to studying. I don't have the flexibility to move around a lot and fly across the globe several times a year.

As someone who's never been in a super serious relationship like this before, let alone an international LDR one, I'm just feeling quite afraid, hopeless, and in the dark.

    Any advice?

Going international is difficult, but it isn't impossible. I should also stress that it doesn't matter how much you plan for things, life sometimes has a way of getting in the way and interrupting at the last possible moment, throwing all your carefully laid-out plans to the wind. It's what happened the last 2 times my SO and I planned to meet for the first time, lol.

Truth is, you can only plan so far ahead, you have one visit planned, and that's something to look forward. Read around the website because there's a lot of different pieces of advice you can piece together to try and help you get through this.
