    The US poverty guidline

    Hi all!
So according to US immigration, to stay in the US in a few years with my girlfriend on the marriage visa, it states she'd need to be making 125% the poverty guidline, which for two people stands at $16,020, or $20,025 with the 25% added on.
I have questions regarding this, because A. This seems low and pretty easy, and B could the rate be lowered if we have lots of savings, as she currently doesn't make that much but I make more. Also, could this rate be lowered if I was guaranteed a job from a company once I entered?

They definitely lowered them from 2 years ago when I moved here and it was 22k without the 25%.

If she does not make 20k a year, you have to make up for everything times X (I don't remember if it was 5 or 10 times) - but the money has to be in her savings, her estates, her cars, etc.

This rate will not be lowered if you were guaranteed a job, because you cannot have a job until you get an employment authorization card / green card depending on which kind of visa you want to do - if it's the K1 Fiancé Visa, it takes about 3 months until you get that card and with that, the opportunity to work legally - so your spouse has to be able to provide for you until you can help with bills so you don't become a burden to the States.

You say it seems pretty low and easy, yet your SO doesn't make that amount...

Anyways, yes your SO has to make this money. Not you. This is proving she can support you, not the other way around. Your savings, job opportunities, and/or salary cannot be counted in this amount.

Sorry this is late, but am I to assume that my savings will contribute to my case of being able to support myself while I find a job?

Your calculations are only a little off - a household of 2 is $16,240 making the 125% $20,300.

Your savings do not count into this amount at all. It has to be your SO's savings as your SO is the one who has to prove that they have enough money to support you.

Your personal savings are really are really just that, your savings.

            Visajourney is your friend!

You could blow the whole deal. How on earth is she supposed to explain sudden money? You think they won't see that and people haven't tried that before? That's not her being able to support you... again, visajourney

Your SO has to provide a bank statement that they go through. Any money that is suspicious might get you an RFE (Request for Evidence) which could cost you your visa. Sadly giving money to your SO is not something the USCIS like.

Yeah giving your SO money might look like you're paying her to sponsor your immigration - a fake marriage.
                    So, here you are
                    too foreign for home
                    too foreign for here.
                    Never enough for both.
