Hi all, I joined and am writing this because I don't have people to turn to who know what it is like to be in a LDR. I also never wanted one for myself because I am such a physically affectionate person and I knew it would be hard for me. But, we met and I fell in love, and he fell for me and I adore him and wouldn't ever want to lose him. But right now I am in so much pain, and its hard to talk about with him because he feels responsible for my pain because being with him is part of the cause. Its really not in any way his fault, but we both struggle with mental illness so I understand why he blames himself, if unfairly. I need somewhere to talk about my loneliness and how much I want to be close to him.

My boyfriend also has Non-24 sleep wake disorder, so even though hes only 3 hours ahead, sometimes our schedules are the exact opposite. And I am busy with work and applying to grad school. Lately he has been going to bed while I am at work and waking up a bit after I go to bed, so we only text a bit in the morning. I am thankful for what contact we get to have, but I feel so incredibly lonely with missing him, and I yearn to feel him in my arms and hug him and be held. I feel dissatisfied with how our interactions are limited to just sharing things from our separate lives. I want to be with him physically and experience the same things at the same time. I miss the immediate back and forth of conversation, I miss his smell. We have met twice in person and its divine, but I miss it so much. We just got to hang out on video call for the first time in a week and I am already crying because it felt so good to see him in real time and talk and enjoy each others company, but its so much more painful after having that to have it gone and look forward to enduring more only text based interactions for who knows how long. And I don't want to waste our time together when we video call by being upset and preemptively grieving ahead of time that it will be over soon. I will speak about this to my therapist, but I just want to be understood and seen for these feelings by other people who may have felt it before.

Anyway, if you read this, thanks for witnessing me. I wonder if anyone else here knows what im feeling and can relate, I would love to hear.

So I met this guy on snapchat quick add, not expecting anything to come out of it. But as soon as we started texting, I knew there was something else, something deeper than just 2 teenagers wanting to talk. He is almost 17 and lives in Barcelona, however that is not where he is permanently staying as next year he will start university and might either move to the UK or Madrid.

After about 2 weeks of talking, we decided to see each other in person as Valencia and Barcelona are not extremely far apart. Of course it was me doing the commitment to go to Barcelona. So after 3 weeks of waiting, we saw each other yesterday. It was very magical and we enjoyed every second of it. I was extremely happy to finally meet him in real life.

But now that I’m back in Valencia, I have this very uncomfortable feeling of what is next. We still haven’t made the relationship official although we are exclusive and very much on the verge of being actual bf and gf. Also, he is in Y13, doing IB and applying for various universities so he has a very busy year. We will not be able to see each other in a long while if we decided that seeing each other in November (again me going to him) is not possible. The next probably date will be somewhere in February. He said that during summer he will definitely come visit me and also during university but my paranoia and overthinking is growing bigger and bigger.

I’m looking at the bigger picture. Realistically, we will not be able to live close to each other until he graduates from university, which is in 5 years or in very lucky circumstances, in 2 years when I graduate from school and we both end up in Madrid. Which makes me think whether starting anything serious with him will really work. But obviously, I cannot think about a long term relationship when we’re not even in a relationship to begin with. So I need to backtrack a little. Going 3 months without seeing him will be crazy hard. I overthink so much and yesterday was just proof that I’m so much better off with him when it’s irl or at least when I feel his presence, so a video call. But he is busy. And I am too. It’s just so hard to live like this, on constant edge of when we will next call or find time to actually see each other, plus the nagging thoughts of where the relationship is going, what his feelings are and how can this work.

A little note about us. What we have is a very calm and genuine “relationship”. We don’t always feel the need to love bomb or communicate every second of the day, we often don’t text during school and call for an average of 30 min a day, weekends might be longer. Yesterday I really felt a great big care from him, he was completely absorbed by me and I don’t think I have to worry about it ending because of his feelings because he told his friend I am worth the distance and he will never find a girl like me.

But my worry is obviously on what will happen next. How we’re gonna make this work and most importantly whether it’ s even possible to have a good relationship, a full relationship with him before we get bored or tired of the distance.

Thank you for reading and contributing to my story!
