I woke up at 7 am this morning due to some anxiety about tomorrow (which is my first day at my first job) and I was reading through the IM logs on AIM from Hattie and I. I usually read them when I miss him and lately I've felt like he's mad at me or is just too plum depressed to do much even though he did respond yesterday morning to all my texts to say he was OK. Anyhow, I got the urge to draw and was looking for a subject when I looked at one of his photos I keep framed at my desk and got an 'aha!' moment. I decided I draw him a little gift that would, if nothing else, momentarily cheer him.

Here it is:

and here's the poem I made up to go with it:

Warrior of the Written Word
Samurai of Synonyms
Fighter for the Default Fonts:
Times New Roman
Arial
Verdana
(But Never Comic Sans)

A parlay of paragraphs
Slash of sentences
Whiplash with words

He has you
Entranced
Awe-struck
Begging for another page,
just
one
more
word

This Buddha of the Books
Narius of Novels
gifts us
with a mind not man-made

So let him fight
Let him win

This Samurai never loses.

He inspires me so much, I'm hoping this little gift (however crudely drawn, it's not my best as I'm fighting my attention span these days) will inspire him a bit too.
