I am currently in the US with my SO. Things have been going well, so I have extended my trip another few weeks til December 10th.
He picked me up at the airport with his mum and it was like the last few months were just a bad dream. We did iron out the kinks, it took us a couple weeks. It was difficult at first for me being here in the same house that the friend lives. I was quite concerned with what she (and his close friend) thought of me, because she knew a lot about our relationship. But now I just don't give a fuck lol. She has a dog who she leaves at home a lot... her dog loves me now.
I had separate conversations with my SOs mum and his grandma. They both said that he hasn't been himself since I left and had been dealing with it in a negative way. There was more to it but I did feel better after talking with them, knowing that I wasn't alone in the way I felt.
Anyway... its a work in progress but it IS WORKING. We did need to see each other again to be able to sort ourselves out. I'm glad I made the decision to stick it out til the visit.
