The Pilot & The Country Girl

Michael and I started out during the end of my 8th grade year. He was a grade ahead of me and it was nice to start high school with a boyfriend that had already been there for a year and knew his way around; I didn't have to be the little freshman that looked lost and scared everyday. Of course with high school there is going to be drama, and we definitely had our fair share of it. Little did I know that just surviving high school was the easiest part of keeping our relationship together. During the second semester of his senior year he drops the bombshell: his dad's job is moving to California (we live in Georgia) and they found a college for him to go to out there. We had about 6 months to prepare and he moved that June. I was forced to endure my final year of high school without the love of my life there with me, and I will admit it was the hardest thing I have ever done. Now we are both in college and trying our best to earn our degrees so we can get married. He is studying aviation and has gotten his Private Pilot's license (just the first step to the long process of someday becoming an airline pilot). He absolutely loves California. He comes home to Georgia every 4-6 months. I have never been to Cali to visit (it's complicated), so those months get longer and longer every time he leaves me here. In May we will have been together for 5 years, and this June will make us long distance for 2 years, but I know that this is only training for what I will have to endure when I am finally a pilot's wife.

welcome to LFAD, that is so weird because my best friends big brother has almost the exact same story. For a quick second i thought you might be his wife.

Welcome! Many people will say "SO" on this site, it means "significant other", just in case you were wondering. when i first arrived on this site it confused me :P
Anyway, well done with keeping up with distance and staying together during all of high school!

Distance doesn't matter when two hearts are loyal to each other.

We live about 25-30 minutes east of San Diego proper. I know where Palomar is, and I've known a few people who go there, including someone who goes there for A&P (airplane mechanics). I hear it's a good school!

He enjoys it. He loves the weather out there! A lot different than what it is in Georgia haha.
