I have been a lurker in LFAD for a while now because I never thought I could actually share anything. You guys really said it all and every time I thought of a bit of advice, I'd scroll down and it had already been given.
But here is something that no one else but me can post -well, except Mr. S, but he isn't here so no problem!
It all started the 30th of October of 2011. It was my last day in Oxford, England. I was in the Oxford International Model United Nations as a member of their Press Team and my editor, Mr. H., sends me to a committee he hadn't sent me before. As I walked in, we saw each other, I introduced myself (he was one of the chairs... people running the committee) and I took a seat. There was one bit in which the delegates were speaking with each other and Mr. S. comes close to me and we start speaking. He tells me he is from Scotland, he'd gone to Mexico once, while he was studying at Stanford and that it had been an amazing experience. I listened, laughed and just answered whenever he asked me questions. Yes, I thought he was cute but I had also sworn off men, since two months ago I had had my heart broken by the most horrible guy in the planet (who left me for someone else).
Anyway, we both parted ways without any contact details being given. My friend who had gone with me to Oxford asked me if I had met anyone I liked and I said "Hmmm, maybe" and told her about Mr. S.
I went back to Mexico. But still, a small part of me kept Mr. S in the back of my mind. When I went to thank my coordinator for the amazing opportunity of going to Oxford, she told me about a summer program in Stanford she thought I'd like. I remembered that Mr. S had gone to Stanford and after looking him up on facebook, sent him an inbox. That inbox went unreplied for a month. Then one day, I was working and I see that I got a new inbox and that it was from him, excusing himself for not having answered sooner since it was sent to his "Others" file. The message was incredibly long and descriptive of Stanford and I told him that I was definitely going.
We started talking and we talked for most of 2012. I met his best friends in California. His best guy friend took me around San Francisco and his best girl friend around Stanford. This was the time when I started feeling something more from him (how couldn't I? His friends were already telling me how sweet he was!)
So, in October I get accepted into an exchange program in Barcelona and I tell him about it and he is really excited and said he would visit me. I was a little afraid because I am overweight and have been struggling with it my whole life. I have always been the "you would be very pretty if only you could lose some weight" girl. I was just so scared that this AMAZING guy would see me and get on a plane back to Scotland straight away. Because I have a pretty face, but my body has always been my weak point. And he would say how beautiful I am and all that but I wouldn't really believe it because he was watching the part of me that *was* beautiful. I just hoped he would be okay with the one that wasn't. Turns out he was. He came, kissed me and just told me how beautiful I am and how much he likes being with me.
He came from the 14th of February (which was when we officially had our first date) to the 19th of February. Our first date was the best date I have *ever* been on and he thought so too. We talked a lot and kissed and laughed. It was like the 16th date of intimacy with the 1st date romance mixed. We had so much in common and since we were already really open with each other, it's amazing how much we talked about. Once, we stayed at his room for almost 7 hours just talking. Who does that a day after their first date? We went to Parc Guell, Sagrada Familia, ate paella and tapas... he made sure I had the real Barcelona experience.
I just couldn't believe that that guy I have been in love with since last year came all the way here to see me and to ask me if we could be exclusive. I will visit him in a week, because I'll be doing a Model UN in Edinburgh and we are both very excited. I am actually going to meet his parents, we'll have lunch with them. It was his idea.
So, that's our story until now. I hope that it will continue and that if you are reading it, you enjoyed it. Even so, it was certainly great for me to get it in writing. So, if there's anything you can get from it is that: Great friendships make great romances. Great love stories can happen when you least expect them. With love, everything is possible.
