Hey Everybody,
I need some suggestions here. My Significant Other's birthday is quickly approaching and will be here in a matter of weeks. I originally was hoping I'd be working before then, But I'm not, So I wont have the money to go and see her like I wanted too. I will also be in school which was a last minute decision I made almost solely on her encouragement and reassurance being the reason I decided on registering for the upcoming semester and not the one in March. I would really like some creative gift ideas. I honestly don't want to go out and spend a bunch of money, not because I don't think she deserves it, because she deserves to be spoiled... But I found that it's the simple things that really make her happy and I want to make her something that came entirely from my own creative ideas. A short time after her and I became official, She said she wanted to hear me sing her a song. I ultimately decided on "Here Without You" by 3 Doors Down because I felt it was appropriate and expressed 99.9% of my day to day feelings I feel while being away from her. So I called her and nervously sang her the song while my heart raced a mile a minute. She thought it was the sweetest thing ever and told me how thoughtful that was and thanked me over and over. After I sang it, We decided that "Here Without You" was officially our song. About a week or two had gone by since I sang her that song and I had gotten an email from her containing a Youtube link and instructions to watch "See You Again" By Carrie Underwood. I watched it and I'll be honest, I cried like a little baby. I would/still watch "See You Again" anytime I was/am having a bad day or my stress levels are high and it gives me that "happy sadness". I don't know if that makes sense... But it gave me the opportunity to cry out all of my sadness and deal with my emotions of missing her all the while it made my heart shine in the best of ways when I thought of her. I really want to do something special for her for her birthday. I don't quite know how I'd do it and this one particular idea may very well crash and burn and not even make it out of the brainstorming stages. It very well may sound terrible, but I was thinking of maybe possibly trying to mix the 2 songs together. Certain elements from each song to create one super "Mushy" song. I also thought about maybe buying her a Nebraska t-shirt. Not super thoughtful or creative, I know... But I was thinking that I would buy her a Nebraska t-shirt and send it through the mail and with the t-shirt, I would include a nice long handwritten love letter. I also told her a few weeks ago, I would really like to give her a video tour of the house. I played with my webcam and microphone just to make sure they worked. I still really want to do this for her. Unfortunately the only way I can do this right now is that since my webcam is built into my laptop, I'd have to walk around with my laptop and the battery pack because my battery needs to be replaced and dies a very short time after I take it off the charger. A few weeks ago I also took a small tumble down the stairs and I'll be honest, Ever since then I'm really "gun shy" about going up and down the stairs in general, let alone with my laptop in my hands... My only other idea was to sit down and try to put my "artsy craftsy" side to work and try to make her a really nice homemade card along with maybe recording her a nice video message just to tell her how much I love her and how much I miss her. Honestly I could of dropped from nervousness the first time I sang for her, But it absolutely seemed to melt her heart when I sang for her that night. I was thinking that maybe in the video message, I would go to youtube and find just a pure instrumental, no vocals added version of "Here Without You" since it's our song and I would sing it for her in the video message and then email it to her.
I would really like to hear everybodies opinions on the more Arts and Crafts side of the gift ideas. I think that i'm going to make the video message one of the things I'll do for her if not for her birthday, than just in general. Like I mentioned I really think she would think it was the cat's pajamas if I sang for her again, So I'll probably include that in my video message. I would just like some creative ideas of things I can make/do for her here at home that don't cost a lot of money, but still mean just as much if not more than a store bought gift.
It probably wont be until around her next birthday, give or take a couple months... But I was also thinking that if I am fortunate enough to make it through Emt school, I would make sure I set aside one of the invitations for her and send it to her in the mail so she could come see me walk across the stage and take the oath of an Emt and get sworn in.
