    Hi Everyone :)

    Hi everyone,

My name is Annie. I'm 21 years old, living in New York and going to college, which should be finished by the end of February. My boyfriend, Handrio, is 28 and is going to school in Texas for his master's degree. We both met in New York and then a few months into our relationship, he revealed to me that he was moving to Texas because the only school that accepted him in New York was just way too expensive, even though he got a 40% off scholarship (~$18,000 per year tuition after scholarship).

I visit Handrio for about a week once a month. My parents are 100% supportive of us and want us to be together so they pay for my trips. My parents themselves were in a LDR for 3 years, and they've been married for 25 years. My friends aren't truly 100% supportive and think I am being over-committed to this guy at such a young age and that he hasn't even put a ring on my finger yet, so I shouldn't be too serious. Some people tell me that it's not going to work out.

Our relationship is complicated. My boyfriend is an immigrant here on a student visa, no green card. He's extremely limited on the jobs he can take because it's mandated by the government that the jobs have to be in his chosen field. He's working as a teaching assistant now, and the pay is less than minimum wage pretty much. My friend's aren't very understanding and claim that since he is the man, he should be paying for everything. People don't seem to truly understand that being poor is really not his fault.

I'm joining this forum because I truly need the emotional support from people who are going through the same thing and have a similar perspective. I shouldn't be taking advice from people who haven't been in my shoes before. Even if I don't ask them for advice, they seem to butt in to my LDR and give terrible advice. For example, one man told me that I should be making my boyfriend feel jealous.

I really hope to be active in this community.
