Only one more day at home..

Taking LB as an excuse to get a blog going. Here goes a noodle soup

I had my first exam yesterday and a project/final exam due last night. The exam went well, crossing fingers i didn't screw things up somewhere big..
The project was to do an estimate from actual drawings and schedules. We had a margin of 7% for the final estimate and my price was at 2.1%! earned me a 95 *does a happy dance*.

The teacher of this last class asked me to pass over my CV at the end of class so i'm going in tomorrow even though i don't have to take a makeup test to pass it on. See after my program is done (in 6 months) i have the right to stay here for a year if i find a certain type of job or internship that is directly related to the program i took. Crossing fingers for that! I'm really not good at networking, so i'm trying to work at that.

Going to update and reformat the layout of my CV today, as mine is done for an A4 size paper, and if you print it out on a Letter format it looks weird. Ah the joys of being an architect and having a perfectionist's eye for detail

For the past couple of weeks i've been having long skype calls with my family often, taking part in the planning process for my sister's wedding. I think i've mentioned this already somewhere, but in Leb there's a lot of things wedding related besides the wedding itself to take into consideration. Today we had a very long Skype call and finalized many important things. Very happy about that!

We have a lot of close family coming from abroad for the wedding, myself included. We now finally have a fixed date for every event! So, the wedding is on Friday. I'll be arriving the previous Sunday at 10PM (my American uncle will arrive 6 hours before me).

1.On Monday we're going to have an all day beach Bachelor/Bachelorette party that the bridesmaids and I are planning for. It will start around 3 in the afternoon as a ladies only event, then the guys will meet up with us in the evening. (on Monday morning I'll have a huge beautician appointment to do all that Two Three did last week ). family members from France coming in that night.

2.On Tuesday we're going to have a big lunch to celebrate my mom's swiss uncle's 80th birthday. He's a special part of our family and basically the only senior from my mom's side now that i think of it

3.On Wednesday there's a big reception hosted by the groom's family in their village for about 200 people. It will be very typical. I'll be sure to post pictures of that. They will be closing down the street in front of their house and we'll have dinner there, with traditional drum and a flute like instrument playing and lots of dabkeh dancing! I still need to find a pair of shoes for that night, no way i'm wearing high heels! There a LOT of stomping involved with dabkeh. (video of a dabkeh flashmob organised by the MOT, in the duty free of the Beirut airport)

4.On Thursday, Dday -1, we will be celebrating my brother's 21st birthday at lunch and trying to calm the nerves of my sister with silly games at home. If all else fails we'll take her out for a huge fruit cocktail like this one.

5. Friday, Dday! We have lots of things planned for the day of. so much it will be a post on it's own. lots of different traditions and things. In short, we'll spend most of the day at home prepping and taking pics, then go to church, get married, go to the reception and mingle and party with the 600 guests till the wee hours of the morning. :s it's going to be a long happy day!

6. On Saturday, my family is hosting an intimate lunch for both families, about 50 people, in a posh beach resort. We'll be spending the day at the beach and then at night the first of our family expats leaves.

Sounds like a festive week, doesn't it? I don't know where jet lag will fit in all of this I'll be staying for 6 more days after that to have time with my family and friends.

Wow, this turned out to be longer than i expected! sorry LB...
In answer to why i want to visit Cuba, I was born there!! My first month was spent in Havana. My mom fled the country when she couldn't deal with the combats anymore at 6 months pregnant. My dad joined her there a few weeks before i was born. Random fact of the day
