Little humor from me, well I find this funny anyway.
Picture this, it's the late 80s. A 38 year old woman from Louisiana, working for an international sugar company, becomes friends with a co-worker. The two become close and one day the friend says, "you seem like a great person, my brother would love you."
"Your brother?" The woman asks.
"Yes, my baby brother, Marvin. He's living in Colorado right now. I think you guys would really hit it off."
"But that's so far!"
"So?" And so the 38 year old, having been years since her last serious relationship, picks up the phone one night and calls him. For six months they corresponded through letters and by phone until the woman saved up enough to leave her family, her entire world, to move to a state she didn't want to be in; all out of love. A year later the two were wed in a small ceremony, shortly after a miscarriage scarred the couple before a year later a little girl was born. When she was two, they returned home to Louisiana. And all hell broke loose.
Fast-forward 18 years. A 20 year old, new to the dating world with her innocence, in many aspects, intact stares at a photograph on the computer screen. It's of the man she's been in love with for 7 months, the one person she feels completely connected to in the world. She can no longer take the distance, the sitting at home. She eagerly begins setting goals for herself, to save up money to buy a car and move to where he is and help pay bills as well as end the fitful distance. Sure it hasn't been a year yet, but the saving will take time, right?
As she ponders how quickly she might land a job in another state and what will happen with school, she pauses.
"Oh my god I'm becoming my mother."
