I've been tossing around the idea of an Etsy store for quite some time. Recently, a friend asked how she could get words on top of a picture (specifically she wanted the lyrics to her first dance on a picture from her wedding).

Well, I got started on it and realized how much I missed photo editing. So, this brings me to my next thought.

Could I sell these digital files? I've offered to do a few for some friends to get more practice in and build up a "portfolio" of sorts. But here's my dilemma: I have no idea how much someone would pay for a digital file like this.

Basically, I could take some of my own pictures and put words on them. Those, I think I would charge more for, because I'm going out and taking the pictures. If the buyer were to provide the picture, I would charge a little less. I think. The concern, of course, is if they are pictures taken by someone else - have they actually purchased the file from the photographer & they are allowed to edit it? I have no idea how I'd go about ensuring that's the case. I mean, I'd need a high resolution file, and not many photographers give out high res files if their client didn't actually purchase the pictures. I guess I could put a little disclaimer or something saying that if you give me a picture that you have not taken you have all rights to that picture kind of thing. I don't want to get screwed over.

Okay, back to my dilemma. I wouldn't provide prints, I don't think. I guess I could, but I'd have to go somewhere to get it printed and I'm not sure I'm "ready" for that kind of hassle. So, I could sell the digital file. For what, $7? Would you buy a digital picture provided by you that someone else edited for $7? Or, $10 for a picture that I took & edited?

Maybe I'll have to look into seeing how much I can do prints for, and add that in later... I mean, I could order prints for a reasonable price through somewhere and add another $1-3 for a printed version (depending on the size).
