Wow, time really does fly. It's been three months since the wedding and we're still living apart, but that should change in about a month. People warned me that this final leg of the distance would be the hardest, but honestly the time so far has whizzed by. I'm excited about our future together, but already feeling nostalgic and homesick - the reality is I never would have decided to leave this place if it wasn't for our relationship. Moving to London makes most sense at this point, but hopefully sometime in the near future circumstances change and we decide it's best to move back here. I really think that if you're lucky enough to have a good job here the overall quality of life here is better than in London.
My mum is putting on a brave front and being very supportive, but I know how hard it is for her and it makes me sad as well. My brother already moved overseas about 10 years ago and it's hard to have your only other child move far away as well... especially when taking into account our parents divorced two years ago after more than 30 years of marriage. We never had a big family to begin with, but suddenly we're scattered all over the world.
My job situation is looking really good at the moment. I knew I would be able keep this one really good client as a part time job, the money would be below minimum wage in England but it would be good enough to start with and at least cover my own needs and with David's salary we'd get by OK. Well, this client decided to offer me more work which would double my income - great news! A lot more to learn as well and I have to rise up to the challenge, but I think it will do me good. I need something new to motivate me with my daily schedule suddenly looking pretty empty once I move - I'd likely fall into depression with having nothing to do other than 3-4 hours of work a day. This will make me push my limits and spend more time learning new skills.
The moving date is set for January 16, that's when I'll fly over to London. But before that David will come to Zagreb to spend Christmas and NY here, and his folks will come for Christmas too. Zagreb is really so lovely in December, I've seen the famed Vienna and Budapest Christmas markets and they're nice, but Zagreb is quirkier and more fun, just so special.
Anyway, there's a lot to look forward to in the next month, with a little bittersweet following, but the future looks bright and I'm feeling very positive about everything.
Good luck with everything!
And that's great that you're able to keep working as soon as you arrive in London. I would go crazy without a job, too!
Wishing you all the best
