I just woke up from a 3 hour nap- do I blame the heat, pregnancy, or the fact that I had a miserable weekend?

My weekend started off great- I had lunch with some work friends and then my SO and I went to an Ethiopian dinner party. My friend's sister lives in Ethiopia so she had brought the food straight from Ethiopia that morning! It was delicious but I've decided that these dinner parties are not nearly as fun when you can't have a few glasses of wine as social lubricant. I am not a big drinker, but I definitely noticed the difference being at a party with a bunch of people I've only met once or twice.

Saturday and Sunday were pretty physically miserable. It was hot as hell (we're right at the peak of hot season) and my body just wasn't happy. I threw up a few times on both days, which is a bummer since I'd been throwing up less the past week. And I just felt/still feel bloated and yucky. The saddest thing for me is that I have no desire to eat! I feel hungry and I know that I need to eat or I'll soon throw up because of an empty stomach, but nothing sounds good to me. All weekend, I just forced myself to eat crackers, noodles, and mashed potatoes.

Sunday, my SO was supposed to take us to the pool but a car ran into him so he spent all day dealing with that accident. It is unbelievable how corrupt the police are here, we have to bribe them on a weekly basis at traffic stops but that is usually $5-10 bribes. If you get into an accident, the bribes you have to give are enormous. Basically, if you don't bribe, they will tow your car and hold onto it until you've gone to court about the accident. I don't know why anyone calls the cops when they have an accident because it's such a waste of money but the guy who hit my SO did. We ended up paying $500 to the cops to get the car released and then had to go pay for our own repairs (fender bender: not worth going to court over when the other driver may have courtroom/police connections).

This has been a big blog of complaints, huh? In positive news, I've finally decided to get an A/C. I've held out for 3+ years of living here (mostly as a point of pride, proving that I can handle the heat). But this weekend, I had had about enough and decided that I need an A/C. I had always promised my SO that I'd get one if I ever got pregnant, so now's that time!

I'll leave you with this cuteness: my daughter's been randomly calling me "Mommy" this week, instead of "Maman" (French) which is usually what she calls me. We had read the word "Mommy" in one of her little bilingual books and now she's trying to remember to call me Mommy and my SO, Daddy. Nothing cuter than her yelling, "I love you soooo much, Mommy" on her way into school (with her little Bambara/French accent).
