So today was our monthly pregnancy check-up. We got there at 2:45 for a 3 pm appointment and ended up having to wait until 4 pm to see the doctor. My SO was pretty bored but we got some entertainment when about 20 army generals from Togo (who are part of the African coalition for the war in northern Mali) joined us in the waiting room.
Finally, we got to see the doctor, who is super nice and really relaxed about everything. She weighed me and I've gained 1 kg (2.2 lbs), which I guess is really good for how far along I am (16 weeks) and at the low end of the acceptable range. She measured my baby bump and we listened to the heartbeat on the fetal doppler. It was definitely a relief to hear that strong heartbeat!! She filled out some paperwork and then she had to run out of there because she got called to the delivery room, guess someone was having a baby!
Before she left, she checked out my blood test results. Everything seemed normal, but then she said, "Uhhh you know you have malaria, right?". I had seen that the malaria result was positive, but I thought that was just showing that I had a small amount of malaria in my system because I have had it in the past (2-3 times). But I guess not, she said that I probably didn't have that many symptoms because it was a small amount but that I definitely currently have malaria. Oh, and that test was from 5-6 weeks ago. And who knows how long before that I have just been hanging out with malaria?! Oops! So she gave me a prescription treatment but I can't take it for another week because I guess you have to be 4 months pregnant to take it. Another week of symptom-free malaria for me!
I have been significantly less nauseous, although I still threw up last weekend. And I do get the occasional migraine. Other than that, I'm doing well! Just waiting to feel the baby move!!
I'm glad I have you guys to tell all this stuff too!

Glad it's treatable and you're not suffering from it.
Haha, you're making those ladies suffer by not telling the gender! Good for you!
Also yeah, I freaked out a bit about Malaria. Since the doc seems not to be concerned, I guess it's not at all endangering for the baby?
I'm thrilled you're doing so well
