We finally got my daughter's passport yesterday (this is something we were supposed to have over 4 weeks ago and because Mali is so damn frustrating, it took until yesterday. Bribery and all. So the second we got it, we ran to the bank and paid for the US visa fee and then came home and finished filling out the online visa application, took her picture, uploaded it and completed the application.

But when we went to book an appointment, my heart dropped. For the past few weeks, I'd been checking the embassy appointment bookings and there were always tons of openings. Well, not anymore...we have an appointment for June 25th. And our trip is planned for July 9th. So that's just cutting it too damn close. The embassy people can't give me a specific amount of time that it takes for "administrative processing" on visas, although the lady today said, "Sometimes a week, sometimes 2 weeks, sometimes more, it really depends". So not helpful.

I keep checking the tickets and the prices still haven't changed, so that's the good news. But I am starting to feel like this just isn't going to work out. Even if we found on on June 26th that she was approved for a visa, we still wouldn't be able to book our tickets because we won't know how long until the visa will actually be in our hands.

I talked to my mom about this last night and we did come up with some alternate dates just in case, one being a week later, one is 1.5 weeks later, and the latest one we could do is 2 weeks later. None of those would be ideal since it'd mean that I'd have to skip certain parts of the trip (the trip is supposed to include a visit with my in-laws, a visit to my grandma, a visit to my brother, some time with my mom's side of the family and a visit to my parent's house. Yes, that would be 5 different states).

Feeling stressed and there is nothing I can do
