I got a job which is nice and I found an apartment which is only $645 a month with utilities which is a huge plus. I was talking to my ex today and he brother decides to tell him oh by the way the area that the apartment is in isn't safe. To be honest I didn't even think to check online to find out if it was a safe area I was just stressed trying to find a place that was cheap enough, plus I figured the only dangerous place in Toronto is Jane and Finch. Boy was I extremely wrong seriously Sherbourne and Dundas St East has been ranked the most dangerous intersection in Toronto even more so then Jane and Finch.
Now panic is setting in, i'm terrified to move into my apartment and be alone there because I was reading and it's filled with drug dealers and users, homeless people and prostitutes. Then to top all of that off all of the violent crimes happen there like robberies, rapes and murders. As well as most of the apartments are filled with rats, cockroaches and bedbugs. Seriously could anything else get worse for me. I can't stay with my ex and my parents can't afford a hotel until I can find a place, i'm just depressed now and feel extremely uncomfortable. I need a place that is around $645, offers 6 month leases, will let someone who hasn't started working yet move in.
I'm in panic mode and i'm out of my safe zone, I can't move into that place knowing what I know now. I don't know how to bring it up to my ex that I don't feel comfortable there at all, he paid for my first months rent for me and i don't know if I decided to change if they would be willing to give him, his money back. I already know that my parents will tell me to find a new place no matter how much it costs.

Confused over apartment and a little scared

Maybe go back and visit the place with a friend and see how it feels.
Did you already sign the lease? If it truly is unsafe and you feel like you can't live there. Ask about getting your money back. Hopefully the landlord is reasonable.
It hasn't actually been signed yet, he just reserved the place for me, but I'm thinking if I don't feel comfortable living there after being there for a day or so asking to cancel the lease. Most places in Canada allow you to cancel the lease within 14 days without a penalty and you get your money back.
