Matt Arrives: in 10 days. *squee!*
Work: I’ve been getting a little anxious about the hiring of a new grants person. Turns out that person will be my new boss. And given how often my opinion is respected in decisions by my boss, I’ve decided to start looking at other positions in nearby places. I’m not scouring hard, but I want my options open in case they hire a failmanager… which, knowing my boss, will probably happen.
…and in good news on that front…
I applied for a job I’m well-qualified for (uniquely so, since human ethics work is uncommon) that pays almost $20k more than what I make now, at a nearby uni, and they called for an interview! I’m interviewing with the manager tomorrow after work.
I’m not going to get my hopes up too high – if I get the job, it’ll be a lot of work… a lot. And I still might not like the work, but for $50-$54k a year, I could swing it. Plus, since I’m hopefully leaving for Australia next year, it won’t be for too long. >_> But with that sort of money, I can make a really nice nest egg for myself.
And if I don’t get it, knowing I’m now more marketable is a nice ego boost. And I could use the practice interview.
Life: I’m rolling along. I’m really looking forward to Matt coming here, and I’m keeping busy until then applying for jobs, tidying the house, and in general trying to make some decisions so I make good future plans for the next year. I want to keep my sanity, but I need to get more money, so… I’m doing it the best way I know how, by looking for a new job/good-paying PT jobs. We’ll see what ends up going on.
Pirate Fest: This past weekend I went to the Pirate Fest Saturday and Sunday. Not only did I get to watch my friend play in her band, but I ran around in pirate wench outfit for Sunday and in general had a really great time hanging out with my roomie and my friend. I had to buy a new bodice. Oh, darn.
