My SO called me this evening and said he had gone to withdraw some money but it said he couldn't because he was almost two grand overdrawn. He hasn't been able to log in to this online account because he needs a little calculator with a code that got lost or thrown out or something. He called the bank and got his closing amounts for each month but we can't figure out where it went. I told him to go in tomorrow to figure it out, see where it went. I think we are both in shock at the moment, we don't go out and spend copious amounts of money. I just don't know.
I've spent the last half hour looking at ways we can cut back on outgoings. We talked a while ago about a 40 pound grocery budget a week but haven't been keeping track. I think he is going to cancel all the extras on our tv (movies, hd, spots) There's little things we can do, but it is frustrating cause I don't think we are actually spending that much on going out or whatever.
He said that chances are we'll have to move into a shared flat which would drop our rent down by a could hundred a month if we find the right place. I'd be okay with moving for this reason, I'd still really miss living here and alone but if thats what it takes then I guess it has to be done.
He starts a new job next week which is good timing but won't be able to save as he wanted to and I am working and doing some babysitting on the side. I am just worried.

Anyways, I'm sure you'll be able to cut back in certain ways. I know England is really expensive to begin with and lots of times money just seems to wander off. The other day my SO and I spent almost $150 on what seemed like 10 things in WalMart. Try to keep a better record of what it is you buy. I'm really awful with that but it seems like it's important for the two of you right now.
Best of luck. I hope you don't have to move.
London is probably the most expensive city to live in England? Everywhere else things seem to be ridiculously cheap (for example some foods can cost 10-times more in here than in the UK :o)
Budgeting properly really is the key to surviving. Cut out anything you don't need and sell/swap things you don't need. Also you can find some awesome clothes second handed that are as good as new! I've found a ton of them for me and my kid.
I used to buy my food from a big chain supermarket and spend LOADS. Then I found Lidl where I can literally get 2-3 times more food with the same money. It's all about making the effort to find cheaper shops and bargains. And remember, EVERY LITTLE PENNY ADDS UP! I know saving a few cents here and there might not seem like much but in the long run it makes a difference! And this is coming from someone who has to shop for food with a calculator so she won't run out of cash... :/
Good luck finding a cheaper place to live and hopefully your SO's new job and you working will be enough to get you properly back on your feet
