Woah Sydney! Enough with the horrid weather already. A piece of roof (luckily, for the shop below us, not our roof) came down last night and totalled some of the plants in our "garden". It's been crazy over here!

Anyway, so I SHOULD be working on getting things ready for Selene's birthday party this weekend. Or at least making a list. But instead I'm wasting time here and on nameberry. Save me from myself. It's going to be MAD though. I never wanted to be one of those parents that did a toddler birthday. Come on, she's not going to remember. But, Bec did one for Isis, and made it clear that she wasn't for Selene, and being the second born myself I know how that shit goes. So I pulled my finger out...
She's having a climbing adventure themed party, because she loves to climb on things, and she's doing a cake smash because she's a barbarian and I think she'll do it well. See, this shit doesn't even sound like me! I don't know myself anymore. I will attempt to make the cake healthy. Is that better?
I've hired a bunch of play equipment from toys and tots (or something like that) who service the region. They deliver, set up, take down, and we get the stuff for the whole weekend (inc Friday arvo), when I was willing to pay that price for day hire. WOO!
I lucked out too, the Saturday I chose happens to be a public holiday, so my work will be closed. Because I was just going ahead planning away, booking things and inviting people and then that night Obi is like "Saturday? Don't you work weekends?" Uh frigg. Yes I do. But somehow I'd completely forgotten that I'm employed. Terrible. This is the state my mind is in basically always now.

Still to work on is food. I'm going to make:
* A giant bowl of trail mix, probably mostly consisting of sun chips (What? They totally belong in there!)
* A platter of multi-cultural fairy bread (fairy bread is just bread with butter and sprinkles. But I'll make nutella and peanut versions as well - with homemade spreads because children.)
* Fruit platter
* Get drinks.

And that'll do. Bec's making mini quiches. I totally turned that into a list. Productive, see?

What else? I'm making a climbing wall backdrop for the cake smash photos. I'm mostly done but it curled up at the edges as it dried. Need to fix that and get stuff to stick it to the wall. Need to make bunting too.

Obi reckons he is cleaning my house for me. Because he doesn't know how else to contribute. Thank you my Goddess for sending me this man!

Oh, need balloons. And to put the kid's tent back together. Could use a table cloth, paper plates. Need to make a non-smashing cake or cupcakes.

That's it right? I've never done this before. I only had one birthday party growing up, so not much experience!

Ok, that aside, the first weekend of May there's a fur convention in surfer's paradise, and Bec is taking the kids from Thursday night to late Sunday so that we can go. Because she's awesome and doesn't think Selene is scary (poo to you Grandpa!). Excited! So need to work on costumes for that.

We bought a bunch of skin paint and did a trial last Friday. Looked amazing, but afterward under my jawline and one cheek broke out in a pretty bad rash and that is still healing (because I scratched the shit out of it, like an idiot.) So I don't know how that will go. I bought this stuff that's supposed to protect the skin a bit from make-up applied over the top of it, but haven't gotten it/tried it yet.
Obi is sewing me a new set of ears, and I bought some steam-punkish clothes off ebay that were actually decently priced, so I'm stoked.

For those of you who don't remember, the "Furry fandom" is basically old men who still love cartoons (like bugs bunny - he's anthromorphic or "furry") and younger, often homosexual or bi, guys who draw and masturbate to cartoon porn. There are some chicks (like me) of course, and the occasional spiritualist who is living out their inner totem (sometimes also me) but overall it's horny guys. So, it's more or less a fetish convention. Because of that, we've done a lot of talking about hall passes, unicorns, etc. I'm excited to see if any of that goes somewhere. We're both pretty sure that by the time we are 40 we'll be swingers.

So yay! Mini vaycay without the kids!

I really should go be useful now. After I make a list of this brainstormed crap that you just waded through. Good on you, by the way.
