It was the best two weeks I've had in ages, I don't think I stopped smiling and laughing the whole time I was there. Even though he had to work for some of it, it was actually okay as I got to hang out with his family a lot and feel like I know them so much better now too.
I actually had to fly into Miami and then fly back up to Virginia which was a bit of a pain but it did mean I got to fly over the everglades (the plane had to circle a few times due to thunderstorms) which was awesome to see. I arrived in Virginia quite late on the Thursday night, after voting in the elections in the morning before I left the UK. My SO came to meet me and we had a quick hug and a not too subtle grope in the airport.....classy!!! We then drove back to his place which is about 45minutes from the airport which was nice to just sit and chat. Once back at his place I think it took less than 2-minutes to get into his bed, which after a year was very quick and intense
The next morning he made me my favourite breakfast (ham biscuits southern style) and he drove me to his Mom's so I could chill out with her whilst he had to go to work. After work he surprised me with a picnic....well he was going to as his Mom lives on a farm and he'd planned to take me down to the pond and eat there but it rained so we ended up sitting on the porch drinking beer from cans and eating but it was still very sweet.
Sunday was Mother's Day and even though it's not the day we do it in the UK he got me a card and present for being a great Mum which was adorable. Sadly, he had to work though as it's one of the busiest days in his restaurant but I hung out with his family again and got to meet some of his extended family for the first time.
He finally had the next few days off and so we did some very touristy things as even though I've been to his house a few times we never really do the tourist trail and he hasn't done it since he was a kid. So we did the Mariners museum, the virginia living museum (full of damn snakes ) the old colonial town, Yorktown where we lost the battle apparently
As I've been telling him how to make curries for the past couple of years (they're really popular here in the UK but not so much where he lives) he managed to find an obscure Indian restaurant which we ate at and we discovered he's a wuss when it comes to spice. I also got him to try sushi and Thai food for the first time whilst I was there, these rednecks are so uncultured
We spent one evening getting very drunk with his best friend who has the most guns I've ever seen. He has an actual gun safe, if there's ever a zombie invasion I'm heading to his house! I got to fire some weapons that are illegal here in the UK, before I got too drunk I should add.
Oh and we decided on a whim to go to a movie and have a proper date night.....great except the two biggest atheists in his part of Virginia ended up watching a Christian faith movie by mistake!
Other random things......sitting in his car in his drive way for four hours as we were too busy talking about Marxism and human behaviour and in doing so letting the ice cream we'd bought melt all over his car.......nearly running out of fuel as I was searching google maps for 'petrol station' forgetting they're called 'gas stations' over there.....walking through the forest and ending up with insect bites all over me.....nearly getting caught having sex in his car and then he tells me it's actually illegal in Virginia. I'm making this sound like a string of disasters!!!
It really was amazing and I enjoy just doing the 'normal' things with him the most like grocery shopping and cooking. I can talk to him on the phone from here but I miss just hanging out with him and snuggling up to him as we talk for hours. Hopefully it won't be a year again until we're together.
Oh and I do have photos, mainly on my camera though which I still haven't uploaded so here's one of us at the airport on the way home looking sad.....
I can't even begin to imagine the cultural differences between the UK and the Southern US
