I got into Speech-Language Pathology at the university I most wanted to attend!! *happy dance*
Brings up questions and issues though. School starts in a month, I'd have to move within a couple of weeks (it's in a town about 2,5 hours of driving from here), and I've got no place to stay. Wouldn't be able to get my driver's license since there would be no time and no one to practice driving with. Mostly, I wouldn't be able to go see my SO again as we had sort of planned to (and we haven't seen each other for 7-ish months). Still, he could probably be able to come visit here, but since I'll be all up in the middle of sorting things out and attending school, we probably wouldn't see each other that much.
The alternative is to apply again for next semester, starting in January, and sort my shit out until then. Go visit my SO, get the license, figure out where to live and save up some money. The problem is that there is no way for me to know if I'd get accepted that time around (though usually the demanded points to get in drops with 0.2-0.4 by then, so since I got in now I should get in later as well. But there's no way of knowing.
My mum is all for me starting now, since I'd be done by the time I'm 24 and would most likely end up with a job straight away. Thing is, I could start in January as well and I would still be done when I'm 24. My dad is a bit more open to it, he sees no real hurry but thinks that it's better to take the safe road rather than waiting and maybe not getting accepted later. I am with them on many points, but the issue remains that I haven't seen my SO for 8 months, and if I go to Uni it might be until December until I can go visit again, making it 12 months apart.
Ugh, I hate growing up and suddenly have to decide about your life, haha xD
On another note, life is going pretty good. I'm working a lot, and since I start at 6am and it takes about 50 minutes to commute, I have to get up at 4am - it's tiring, but the people I work with are awesome and we have a lot of fun together. The tasks are pretty mundane and repetitive (we're packaging meat for stores), but it's a whole lot more fun when you can talk and joke around with people I'm only hired until the end of August officially, but I talked to the boss yesterday and he said there's a chance to exted the contract, so woo for that! It all depends on what happens with school and not though, as previously mentioned.
And that's that, pretty much! Looking forward to the World Cup-finals tomorrow, will be interesting to see what happens
Cheers!
I don't know how the admissions process is in your country but over here it's really hard to get into a program in SLP. That would make me want to start in the fall and not have to worry about getting in again in January. Your SO could still visit you while you are in school, even though it's not ideal. However, that may not be an issue for you since you already got in once.
Is it possible to postpone starting until January?
Or starting with a lighter work load?
Kittyo9 - Thank you! Yeah, I know time will most likely fly by as it as already, but there's still that thought lingering in the back of my mind that another 5 months would be unbearable, even though I know it's not I'm leaning more and more towards aiming for January instead, and get my shit sorted out xD
Floridaellen - Thank you! It's so nice to know someone else who's studying the same thing - maybe we can have awesome discussions and whatnot later on! How long have you been studying it? Well, won't explain how admissions are made, but basically the points needed to get into the programme are higher during the summer and lower during winter. So considering I got in now, getting in this winter shouldn't be an issue. Still not sure though, trying to make my mind up
Ahava - Thanks! It's possible to postpone if I decline the offer now and apply again later, but I wouldnt' be able to "pause" my education from August to January. Lighter workload is probably not a possibility either since it's right in the beginning of the programme, and there's a whole bunch of stuff to get done and get a grasp of. But I'll look in to the possibilities!
