My SO gave me the go ahead to start looking at how we close this distance. I'm kind of hoping we can do it in the next year, I have no idea what the process includes, the costs? the forms? the meetings?
It would mean me moving from the UK to the US where he is.
Wondering if anyone can give me an idea of where to start looking.
1. If you want a workers visa you must land a job before you come to the US. Most countries frown upon you moving to the country under a travelers visa and then searching for a job. It can actually get you kicked out.
2. You can apply to a college here and get a student visa. It is obviously only good for while you're studying. You might be able to apply for jobs while you're here under a student visa, not sure.
3. Sponsorship visas are usually the easiest to come by but they come with a lot of commitment. You'd have to either have family over here who could sponsor you or you would need a spouse (or in-laws) who could sponsor you.
Not going to lie, it's not an easy process for any country. The process will likely take a minimum of a year. Not trying to discourage you, just warning you of what may come.
I watch a youtuber named Totalbiscuit. His wife is American and he is English. They met in the US when he was over there for a convention. They entered a LDR, got married, and for years they struggled to get him over there because his wife didn't qualify for sponsorship because the government didn't consider what she did as work because they kind of co-owned an online business for his youtube videos and they dabbled in competitive gaming. And he couldn't get a workers visa because he worked for himself and he wasn't willing to give up what he did for a living in order to move over there. He finally got to go over there when a studio offered him partnership so after that he was technically an employee for an American business so he was able to come over.
