So, back story:

My last year of college, my SO asked me out while I was home for Christmas break. 2 weeks later I was back in Indiana for school, and we were LD for 5 months. We did see each other at least once a month though so it was nothing too bad. The problem was that before meeting my SO I had been hired to teach in China for at least a year following my graduation from school with my Master's. I told him this on our second date, and he was not happy. However, he had been in love with me for years and years - I NEVER knew!!! - and figured if he waited that long just to ask me out and date me, he could wait a little longer.
So, after graduation we had 3 weeks of being CD (meaning we lived 40 minutes from each other instead of 4 hours) and then I left for China.
We Skyped, kiked, and emailed our way through 13 months of LD. He came to visit me for Chinese New Year, and that was AMAZING!
We kind of always knew that this was it. Our relationship was unlike any other I'd been in, and I knew he was the one about 2 months into our dating. He'd known I was the one for years, but was too shy to do anything about it...
Well, I've been home living with my parents since July, and we knew we were going to get married, but due to finances we didn't know when. Finally we decided we're just going to do this, and said we'd get married at the end of the year. I'm pretty laid back so I didn't care what day, but apparently my elderly family was freaking out not knowing when to plan for so we picked a date -December 14 of this year. We were not engaged at this point.

Ok, so I always figured that I would know when I was getting engaged. I know my SO, and I figured his being nervous would tell me when it was going to happen. Well, he surprised me...
On Saturday, Sweetest Day, he planned for us to go Up North and check on his boss's rental house. We love road trips so I was super excited! He showed up at my house with pink roses, a balloon, and a card for Sweetest Day. - I had forgotten it was Sweetest Day so I hurried up and drew him a card with crayons and stole a candy bar from my brother to give to my SO lol - We drove 4+ hours to get to this house, and he had packed chocolates and waters for the road trip. We had fun and laughed and talked about lots of stuff on the way. Once we were at the house he said we had to go to the top of this mountain/ski hill to take a pic of the view for the boss's wife to put online. She didn't have any pics of the scenery in fall and wanted to post them for the renters. So we found the trail and he dragged me up the mountain. When we got to the top it was breathtaking. All we could see for miles were trees that were beautiful shades of red, orange, green, and brown. Michigan is so beautiful in the fall. I took the camera from him to take some pics, and he told me to try to get some of the lodge especially. I turned to show him the pic and he was down on one knee, and he asked me to marry him. I said yes and burst into tears - I was sooooo happy! He hugged me and put the ring on my finger. We then climbed into the deserted ski lift and sat there taking in the view and enjoying being together and being engaged Yay!
