How exactly do we get everything of his here? Moving?

So my SO is going to be moving here within the next few months and I honestly still have no idea about how this will work.
Mostly just him bringing all of his clothes, and personal items. What did some of you do? I was thinking of him bringing as much as he can in a couple suitcases, and then giving his mother some money and maybe every week send some of his clothing and things like that.
He's going to be flying here, and he doesn't have a car. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

I got rid of half my clothes before I went, then it was easy. It costs way too much to ship clothes over. Tell him to go through them and give away the ones he doesn't wear anymore. Don't bother bringing any cds/dvds they won't play in that region. Any furniture he owns, leave it or sell it. I am guessing it isn't worth bringing. Are you closing the distance for good or just for a while?

He's only from Florida, and I'm in Ohio. He's going to be here for years, so a long time. We're thinking after some long years here once we become financially stable we can move to Florida. But that won't be for a long time.

First he should cull his belongings and try to part with things he doesn't need/want/use anymore (I personally have a 1-year rule with clothes - if a year has passed and I haven't worn it, it gets donated to charity). Things like books and heavier, but more durable and less fragile things, can be shipped in first-class parcels for a reasonable rate domestically. Clothes, lighter stuff, and more sentimental stuff can be brought in his luggage. If I were him I'd buy 2 big duffel bags (the kind with wheels but that aren't a hard-casing so they're lighter weight). Pay the fee for an extra bag. Most airlines allow up to 50 lbs of weight (coming back from Russia I stuffed 2 huge bags full and where they felt super heavy of a lot of my fiance's stuff, and they still were under the weight limit).
