    Bittersweet Circumstances....BUT...

Well, I got some news today. I posted a few weeks ago about Anthony struggling with school. We found out today that he has been suspended for a year because of his grades, which is extremely unfortunate. But, it also means we are closing the distance! I will probably be driving up on Friday to Rochester to go to the hockey games all weekend and then we will move his stuff out on Sunday. The situation is less than ideal because he tried so hard to get his grades up and I know he's going to be miserable being home with his mom, but we will finally be together.

That's amazing that you will be able to close the distance for the year.... Hopefully your SO can use this time to really work at his grades, or even do it together! You named the thread perfectly, it really is bittersweet!

Good luck for the future to your SO... It always works out if it's meant to be

The same thing happened to me when I was in college. You know what though? It was the best thing that ever happened to me. Because of it, now I get to go back to school for something I absolutely love instead of what I can tolerate or thought I was interested in. Encourage him to keep his chin up and congrats on the distance being closed regardless of the circumstances.

I suppose it's one of those every cloud has a silver lining sort of situations! I know the feeling. My first chance of going to university slipped through my fingers; if that hadn't happened though there's a very strong possibility I would never have met my boyfriend. I'm now two years behind and studying at an institution which is far lower in the league tables than those I'd been aiming for originally, but it doesn't matter at all. I'm still determined to make it - and I'm sure your SO will too Best of luck to you both, and congratulations on having defeated the distance when you least expected it!

Thanks! Yeah, it's not the most ideal way to be closing the distance, but I'm just happy to be with him again. We finalized the plans and I will be driving up early on Saturday morning, making the 7 hour trip, then we're going to playoff hockey and then on Sunday we will make the drive home.

Suspended from study is horrible since as you said he has been trying so hard. Im sorry.

But at least you found a silver lining!!! Yay for closing the distance for at least a little while.

I'm sorry and glad to hear that. It'll work out and you guys have a year together!!

Enjoy those hockey games. I'd go because my school's playing in them this weekend, but I have too much school work to do.

How exciting, in a way. Hopefully being around you more will help him with things he had been struggling with.

Definitely agree with your title that it's bittersweet, but glad there is something positive in closing the distance. Sometimes people just burned out with school, so maybe it will be a nice break and let your SO figure out what's best for him. One of my good friends took a gap year and said it was the best decision she ever made. Closing the distance also means you can be there for each other which is always nice, especially since he's been going through some rough times.
