The LDR ends tomorrow. I fly up one-way to spend two weeks with her (she finishes her final clinical rotation and graduates with her DPT), and then we drive down together. I never thought I would be the type to try an LDR. Now here I am, 1 day away!
Thoughts on what made it work for us:
Tomorrow.
Thoughts on what made it work for us:
- Being online friends - we met on WoW - for two years before actually meeting.
- We met as platonic friends (we both kinda knew there was something there) so there was no expectation of anything more.
- When we did decide to try the LDR, we set down guidelines right off the bat.
- We also had a firm end date to this from the start.
- We fell in love very quickly.
- We just happened to be very compatible.
- Some LDR "experts" say to not talk to each other all the time, some recommend it. We both talk to each other as much as we can, sharing the mundane stuff of the day. That worked for us.
- FaceTime and Skype helped a lot. Seeing each other before going to sleep was comforting. Getting random video calls was also a nice surprise.
- Being able to see each other in person as often as we could afford in time and money was critical.
Tomorrow.
