Moving abroad within Europe - help needed!

    Hi guys!

In 10 weeks I will be joining my partner in the Netherlands. Seems so close that I am dealing with the distance better than I ever did.
After I graduate I will have a friend visiting me and a week later (the time for me to pack or finishing packing) my SO is coming to help me with stuff and to do this big step together. I will have a goodbye party and then we go to the Netherlands.
We never got into a plane together, so for me it is kind of a symbolic thing. But now we are trying to manage some things:

    - We both want to do some holidays. We thought we could go by plane, take all the luggage I need, and arrange the stuff at our then new home! (and leave the vacations for another time soon).
    - But we also think we would like to go by train or bus and do some holidays on the way. But here which arises is: what to do with the luggage?

So I think what I would like to ask you, european folks, is: how do you manage this moving abroad thing? which 'post' company is best and saffer? Or is it best to take luggage on the plane instead of a company doing it by post? I think we will go with the first option because it will be expensive enough to move to a new house and for me it will be quite fun to take 3 or 4 days to just arrange ''our'' home. Best vacations ever anyways

Also, I would like to hear about your experiences!!
I am so excited to move abroad, but I suck at the practical matters. The internet has too much information!

And just another question... Did your SO once felt guilty that you were moving to him? Mine says he fells a bit; like he thinks he is pushing me away from my loved ones. But he knows I would go abroad anyways if I didn't know him and I already lived abroad once. It is something that I just love. The adventure, the scary feeling, plus the sensation of living together with the love of my life!! It is amazing!

I hpe you can share your experiences on the practical and emotional stuff as well!
    Hugs!

Congrats on closing the distance! I'm not in Europe but my SO has moved to me in the USA and I have moved to him in CR, and right now we're planning on going back to the USA again. So I do have quite a bit of experience moving abroad.

My advice is to hands down move all your stuff into your new place and then do a vacation. When my SO and I move back to the USA again we'll be moving in with my parents. Then, before getting jobs and stuff we plan to travel around the USA a bit. It would suck having to haul around your entire life to a whole bunch of different places.

DON'T travel with bulky luggage. I have been to Paris with a 23kg suitcase and to London with a carry-on bag. London was much more comfortable in that regard.

The Netherlands is also very close to the major Western European centres so it makes more sense to move your luggage there before you travel!

      Good luck.

Hey guys! Thank you! maybe travelling with luggage is a terrible idea. It was just a 'dream'/'goal' we had in our minds... like grab a car, bus, train and just go and do whatever. Unfortunately on my part I can't afford it and its not that Handy... (thus i'ts very expensive too, more than the plane!)
