Any UK resident who got married to an non- EU/EEA national ?

    Hello everyone,

I will give you a small backround. But I am currently living and working in the UK, being from Switzerland I don't need a visa or anything.
My boyfriend is currently doing a Master in Turkey, but originally from India.
We have been together for almost two years now, and we are thinking about a serious idea to close the distance.
We would like to get married here in the UK to be able to settle down and live together.
Anyone could had this experience and could give me some tips ? I am quite lost by reading the process for visas, would like some advices from anyone who could.

    Many many many thanks !

I'm a uk citizen and married a Canadian.
The visa issue is a head hurter but it can be done!
What exactly was it you needed help with?
He'll need to apply for a visa to even get married in the uk. He can't just arrive and get married unfortunately.
Feel free to comment back or pm me and I'll try and help you out as best I can.
As long as there is air in my lungs... there is a chance

We are flying to Gibraltar to get married instead of dealing with UK marriage visa. No fuss, no muss. It is a UK overseas terrritory and no residence requirement, waiting period is one day, and you can email your stuff online, book your date, and pay with bank card in advance. Show up with your original documents and proof of one night stay and wah-lah, you can get married. Check out their website if you are interested and it is fully recognized in UK.

we decided to just do the fiance visa route, as we want to get married in America and then I live there with him permanently, we decided this because either way even if we did do spouse visa for UK or USA both will be just as hard, same if he did fiance visa for UK, we heard fiance visa is easier and abit quicker than spouse visa. Mainly our decision was based on the fact we would like to close the distance with me move to America. There is no big difference though if we had done fiance visa for him to come to UK besides the fact we would of had 6 months to get married instead of 3 months(90 days) for USA.

I am sure how it works for UK citizen marrying someone who is from Asia, Africa etc.

All I know for sure is he would need to return to India when applying for the visa for you two to get married in UK and he will need to get police checks from each place he lived in, birth certificate and you would need to prove you can support him financially.
