Shortened the distance, not quite closed. Anyone's experience with something similar?

I am thrilled to report that months after things were stressful, my SO moved much closer for a new job--only two and a half to three hours away instead of eight. We're coming up with ideas for things to do together that will come more easily than before and sometimes mention living together at some point--maybe not in this state but at least together somewhere. I hope so much that he likes his job enough and settles in alright--I worry that he won't want to stick around (silly worry, I know). We may not have closed the distance completely, but we sure shortened it. It seems like a good intermediate step. What are some folks' stories about shortening the distance? Just interested in others' experiences.

You can visit him for a day now if you really wanted. I do 5 hour drives to snowboard for the day, a 3 hour drive is nothing

Yay for shortening the distance & the drive. I'm sure it will be more than worth it for you.
