First Post! I need UK Visa advice for an American...

    Hello!

My boyfriend and I are trying to figure out the best way to "close the gap" and we aren't sure which way will work. I'm in Colorado, USA and he is in Scotland, both in our low 20's and make "OK" money. We've both done a bit of research on the best way to get me over there, but I just wanted to get some other perspectives, success or failure stories..

    Thanks in advance!!

In order for you to move over here he needs to be earning £18,600.00 per year. I believe you will also have to get married. I am no expert at all though. The government website for immigration is not that easy to understand and the immigration process is long drawn out, extremely expensive, very complicated and with no guarantee of success. I wish you luck!

It may be easier him to move to you. If I didn't have the baggage I have I would have moved over to USA by now. I love my country and I love where I live, but the living costs in USA are so much lower than here, the earnings opportunities much greater and the standard of living is better.

If you're both are serious about being together, I'd look at both options. Until then have lots of visits, send lots of letters and keep your emails, texts etc as you will have to convince authorities that your relationship is genuine.

I couldn't afford to sponsor my SO so I am moving to the US. There is so much involved and both processes are very long and very expensive. He has a better job, a house (I have an apartment), a car (I don't) so more to give up than I do. So after a chat about it we decided it'd be best that I move there. You need to do research on both visa processes and have a discussion about what you can realistically do. Save up together, believe me it isn't cheap!
      Engaged Dec 2015!! Visa approved June 2016 . Married July 18th 2016 <3

Home is where the heart is and my home will always be with my love.
All the way from England to the USA.

Unfortunately he can't move here.. He would if he could, but he has kiddies there and he's to good of a father to just bail out.
