A Plan to close the distance...HELP

Alright so I would love to have a plan on how to close the distance... And I just don't know where to begin...

I am in my 2nd year of university and will be for another three years, so I was thinking I should start the process while I am in my 4th year of University. My closing the distance would mean my SO coming from St.Paul Minnesota and moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada) So it would be USAtoCanada.

I kind of have an idea on what needs to be done paperwork wise, ie. the visitors visas, applying for PR whilst on the visitors visas getting married... but while he is on the visitors visa applying for the PR should he be living in Canada with me in an apartment? Or what needs to happen?

Like how much money should I be saving, and how much should he be saving. Because I am pay for my University Tution and fees which is about 4000/year.

I wish I could help you but I have NO idea what immigration for Canada is like...

If it's anything like US immigration, you need to save A LOT! At least a couple thousand dollars, but it all depends on the situation.

Hopefully someone here has dealt with Canadian immigration and can give you better advice

Well, the good news is, if he lives with you for a year in Canada and you can prove it (lease, joint bank accounts, joint bills) you can get your PR without getting married. Woo!
He can either be in the country or outside of it while the PR goes through, but you must be in the country, and he must stay where he was when he applied. (If he applies within Canada, make sure his visa has at least 6 months left on it)
PR will set you back about $600 for the two applications
Happily married to the little Canadian boy I never thought I'd meet in person

I think your best bet would be to talk to Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

As for money, you may want to ask for advice from an immigration lawyer. Either that, or does your university have student legal services by any chance? Or perhaps you know a friend or acquaintance who may be studying international/immigration law?

          There's this: https://www.justanswer.com/law/immigration (I haven't tried it myself so I can't really support it)

And to SeattleLove, I don't really know about getting married in Germany, but after talking to two immigration lawyers, both have told me it's easier to get married in the United States. (It depends on what your country needs or has to have done to consider your marriage a marriage, so.. to you I also say to speak with an immigration lawyer if you can! They're really helpful!) If you do decide to get married in the US, your SO will have to file an application for you (cost: $455) to come to the United States on a fiancee (K-1) visa. When you go to the US, you'll arrive on a K-1 visa, and will have to get married within three months of your arrival in the US. After that, you can apply to become a permanent resident.

          Hope this helps! Good luck!

Just to add to this information,
The first application is $455 but you will also have to pay for a medical visit in your country and another large fee at the US embassy. Let's not even get started at how expensive Adjustment of Status is....ugh. But all a small price to pay for love

Edit: I just realized that SeattleLove deleted her post. Oops.

If you want to know how much money to save for everything, as in, visa plus living together etc - you'll have to make a budget. To find out how much it costs to immigrate - well, you can see how much the visa fees are on the immigration page, and you can call an immi lawyer and ask what his fee is and how much it generally costs to process a visa of your type.
