eric is planning on moving out here in august.. which i cannot wait for!

anyways, he neeeeds to find a job before he gets out here, the market is so tough right now, and i don't want him to move out here, and then have no income

he is starting the process now of looking for jobs online and stuff

anyone have any good job hunting tips? any certain websites that are good (besides monster, careerbuilder, craigslist)

Connections are normally a big one. Someone will know someone whos recruiting.

Put the word about and ask people to let you know if they hear of any jobs going.

also temp agencies are usually pretty reliable for finding "tide you over" type of work, even in this economy.

Have him rework his resume, making sure someone who's currently on the up and up with best resume style has a look at it.

It's better for him to identify an industry he wants to work in, if that's possible, and then go to those individual companies to see if he likes them and apply. Put in at employment agencies, and don't be afraid to use friends and other contacts to help get him a job. Good luck!

Make sure he has a good resume. If an employer is going though a bunch of resumes, I know that they usually won't even bother reading the poorly laid out ones regardless of their past experience and education.

I like indeed.com for looking up jobs. Also, I suggest he get in contact with a workforce development center in your area. They provide job postings as well as help with job hunting skills, like resumes and interviewing.

Well I had the same sort of situation. I moved town and I knew I had to have a job before I moved.
I moved in December, and started applying in September.
A lot of jobs reject you because you don't live there yet. They don't know if you will actually move, or they want someone to start before you arrive.
The one thing I learnt is YOU MUST call the contact person for every single job you apply for, to explain your situation. Every one that I did, I got offered an interview for, and every one I didn't call, I got a rejection letter for.
The difficulty might be getting a job without an interview. I was lucky in that the job I applied for let me have my interview the week I was visiting, which was actually the week before they officially commenced interviews.

When it got close to when I moved and I hadn't gotten a job yet, I started putting my details down for babysitting jobs, and just random casual jobs i.e. supermarkets.
