    Closing the distance temporarily

    Hi All,

I am doing a summer internship in California in a few weeks. Because of this opportunity, my BF and I will be closing the distance for about 2 1/2 months. I cannot tell you how excited we are to finally be able to have some length of time together. The longest we have been together consecutively is 15 days.

I am both excited and sad about this opportunity. Because of financial issues, I will have to leave my 2 children behind to stay with my parents for most of the summer. My original plan was to take them with me but my finances and temporary living situation simply don't allow it. Also, since our plan is to close the distance permanently next summer, my girls want to spend most of the summer here since it will most likely be their last in NJ.

I am also nervous because my financial situation is very serious. I need to complete this internship in order to graduate in the next few months and finally take the necessary steps to close the distance. We have been dating for almost 9 years....the time has come.

I am trying to look for temporary part time work in the Burbank area (my internship is unpaid... of course). Does anyone have any advice for finding temporary work? I still have bills that need to be paid during the summer.

    Thanks!

Can you contact a temp agency there? Or, there's workforce development centers that post a lot of job opportunities and help people find jobs. Perhaps you could contact a place like that. If you just want a summer job, sometimes there are openings at rec centers and similar places for seasonal positions too. I also notice that schools that offer summer school programs often need helpers in the summer as well.

I agree with Micah.. Those are some great places to start! I know you will miss your children greatly but I bet it takes away a lot of worry knowing they will be in the safest hands with your parents. Still, I can tell you are determined to make it work and I bet you won't be without a job for long!! Best of luck to you and look forward to hearing you got something soon
