I don't know if this has been brought up, but I folded some origami hearts once to throw in with a letter and I got a really great response. The "official" origami paper can be found for pretty cheap at craft stores and folding instructions for various birds and such can be found around the web and, as long as you pick beginner level things, they aren't too hard to fold and make nice surprises.
