How do I go about the birthday present?

Mine and my SO's birthdays are in the same week in November. so we have planned a trip for me to fly out and meet him for the first time. My plan is to get out there the day before my birthday, with his 5 days later. I know it's a bit of a while away, but i like planning ahead

I don't know how to go about doing him a birthday present. Do i buy it and fly it over with me? Order it online and get it delivered to him? or do I buy it once I'm out there?

Any ideas or experience on this sort of thing?

Flying out to meet him for the first time: 16th November 2014 - 14th December 2014
Flying out to meet him for the second time: 3rd June 2015 -18th July 2015
Flying out to meet him for the third time: 12th December 2016 - 12th January 2017
His first flight to me: April 2018 DENIED ENTRY
Flying out to meet him for the fourth time: 23rd June 2018 - 7th July 2018
Got Engaged: 12th December 2016
Married: June 29th 2018
Hoping to close the distance: 2019/2020

Unless it is something that is breakable, very heavy /big or otherwise difficult to bring, the easiest thing is to just buy something and bring it with you. Also, this my SO thought was cool, bring something to make a cake with while you are there. I brought a cake mix, cupcake paper and candles with numbers on them .
