    Hi there!

I've been lurking here a couple of weeks, and decided it was time for an introduction.

My name is James, but I've been going by the name Spink online for atleast 12 years now. I live in Masterton, New Zealand and have lived in New Zealand all of my life.

My fiance, who lives in Tucson, Arizona goes by the name of stephanieaz on these forums.

We first met online in an IRC chat room about our EverQuest server, around 12 years ago. While we were very in love we were both young and the distance seemed insurmountable so we drifted apart, still keeping in contact small amount over the years. In February 2012, I decided to get in touch with her again and she was willing to talk. We realised quickly that we still had strong feelings for each other, and our exclusive relationship began on March 1st 2012. We both struggled with the difficulties presented by LDRs and invented some techniques for feeling closer together, that we later discovered other people on these forums had been using (like watching one partner sleeping). My sister, moved to New York for a year starting in Dec 2012. My Father, not wanting to leave her alone and feeling stranded paid for myself and my mother to go visit her in June 2012, I decided to use this trip as a chance to meet Stephanie in person for the first time. So we decided together that she could get two weeks of paid leave in July and so I planned my trip accordingly, visiting several other friends I'd known over the internet over the years on my journey to Stephanie. The entire trip I was resisting the urge to just book a ticket directly to Tucson from wherever I was, just to be with her a little longer. After spending the first week of my visit in New York visiting with my sister I went to Maryland and stayed with a friend, My mother was feeling homesick and wanted to cut her own trip short (we split up after NY, her going to visit friends in NC while I went to MD) and so we talked about calling my Father to change the flight plans since the cost was fairly low. I got to thinking that maybe I could extend my stay with Stephanie, so I talked to her about it and she seemed amenable so we ended up getting five weeks together instead of two.

We met in person for the first time on the 5th of July at Tucson International Airport, communicating where we'd be by text! We were both pretty nervous to start, but we started by holding hands on the drive home and it felt wonderful to be together at last. We had an amazing time together, she's close with her grandparents who live in Tucson so we got to go and do things with them several times. We went out to a bunch of places I was interested in trying because I'd heard about them on TV or via the internet - largely fast food places, lol! - it was fun and wonderful because we were together. We went on a road trip with her grandpa to visit her father, a four hour drive away. It was a pretty exciting trip and I got to see a lot of beautiful places in Arizona with my beautiful girlfriend. It seemed like her father liked me okay too, so that was good! After her leave from work ended she had to do a lot of catching up with work, but we still cherished the time we had together. The last week we were together had her having to work a sleep over shift for work, so she got special permission to bring me to work to sleep over too, and I'm thankful that I got to spend those nights with her too. Our last day together was very difficult, she dropped me off at the Phoenix Shuttle (the shuttle to Phoenix airport from Tucson) barely able to hold back the tears and I left feeling sad that I didn't know the next time I'd be seeing her.

When I got home, we realised that we wanted this to be the real thing and we wanted to live together forever. We started looking at the K1 Visa process, and I have a friend living in the US who recently married a woman from Thailand and he helped me with some advice with that. Unfortunately since we are both pretty camera shy we only got one photograph of us together so we have been doing a whole lot of work getting extra evidence ready for the K1 but are pretty close to submitting it now.

On the 18th of October my Dad was going to be in Phoenix so I arranged for Stephanie, and her grandmother to go meet him at Casa Grande, mid way between Phoenix and Tucson so they could get to know each other, but I also had an ulterior motive. I had my Dad record a video of my proposing to Stephanie, and then carry the ring with him to the USA to give to her in person. After the video played I called Stephanie and she said "My answer is Yes!" and made me the happiest I'd ever been.

Recently we found out about a promotion to make the air fare for a return trip from the US to New Zealand only $1300 so I called my Dad and asked if he could purchase the ticket, on the condition that I pay him back over the course of the interluding time, and he said Yes. So we booked tickets for her to come visit me in March, hopefully if our K1 wants a RFE we can submit more photos from then and not have to resubmit it! Knowing a concrete date for the next time we'd be meeting helped a lot too!

My current job is working Nightfill at The Warehouse Ltd. My hobbies mostly revolve around the internet and the computer (and my cat, Asha)

I look forward to being part of the LFAD community
