Hi all,
My name's Ellen. I live in Massachusetts, and my guy lives in New Zealand. (Yeahhhh.)
We met online in January, and it was just fun chat at first, but it quickly became apparent we clicked amazingly well and were attracted to each other. For the past several months we've been talking pretty much every day, whether on the phone, skype, or yahoo. We haven't been able to meet up in person yet primarily because of money (flights are so expensive!) and because of schedule stuff. (He's at the tail end of writing his phd dissertation.)

He's submitted his work soon, and plans to move to the US for career-reasons anyway after that, and he's talked about there being a future with us, etc. I feel like things are so up in the air, but it all sounds promising.
We're looking at February as being the first possible chance to meet, which seems ages away.

Anyway, just thought I would say hi. Looking forward to hearing everyone's stories and sharing in the ups and downs of LD.

It's so...reassuring?.. to see other people with long distances and figuring out how to make it work. Sometimes I feel like my friends/family think I'm crazy, and at least one person has done the "why don't you date someone around here?" line of questioning. Somehow "because he's the guy I want to be with" doesn't seem to be a good answer to them, lol. Frustrating!

First of all: welcome to LFAD
There will be a lot of people who will ask the same silly questions as the "why don't you date someone around here" around you, but here we all know that when your heart is set on a person distance doesn't matter.

Yeah, my mom is always asking me why I don't find a guy that lives close to date.. I'm like, because I don't want to be with any of the losers around here! Good luck on your relationship though It is nice to have people to talk to who understand what you're going through though! I think it helps out a lot.

That's some of the reasons why I ended up here several years ago XD I needed to find people who fully understood my situation and I did. I hope you'll like it here too

As for those that ask "why don't you date someone around here?", Well as you know by now we can't/don't always decide where we end up. It's more like "lle mae'r galon yn arwain", (where the heart leads).. Myself I'm very happy with where its lead me! Enjoy being a couple and the hell with what others think.
