Lurked for three years - oops.

    Hello all,

I have already made a few posts in the LFAD community, admittedly because I was having a bit of a crisis and wasn't exactly sure where to turn. But now that I'm here, I figured I better just settle in. Although my SO and I are going through a bit of a turbulent time, and I'm really not sure what the outcome will be, I wanted to introduce myself anyways since I've grown quite fond of you people

My SO and I met in the mountains of western Canada - he being originally from England and myself from Eastern Canada. He had just finished his bachelor degree and I was taking a year off of mine, and we both thought "Why not have a bit of fun?" and decided to spend the winter skiing/snowboarding. Miraculously, we ended up a on the same mountain, in the same department (we routinely count our lucky stars for this). We actually ended up officially meeting the day that I locked myself out of a room and he had to come and rescue me. On our first date he asked if he could take me on my first double black diamond run and promised that I would do just fine. Honestly, hand on heart, it was the best first date of my life and I never looked back. The rest, as they say, is history.

Originally, I joined the LFAD community because my SO's visa ran out and he had to return home for 4 months - it was his suggestion and his method of coping with the distance. Neither of us had done distance like this before so we weren't sure what to expect (it sucked). We closed the distance after those long four months and have had all sorts of crazy adventures since. When he decided to come to Scotland for his masters, we spent another 2 months apart, and I have just closed the distance by moving here for 90 days until my own masters program starts in Canada. He and I are extremely fortunate because I actually hold dual citizenship in the UK as well as Canada, so if things ever get too rough, I always have the option of coming back to him for an indefinite time.

If we can work out the issues we're facing right now, we're still looking at another 17+ months apart before he can return to Canada and apply for residency as a skilled worker. Because of our most recent, erm, "problem" (feels more like the earth has split in two and we're on opposite sides)... I'm not sure what the future holds for us, but I do know that I'm looking forward to chatting with you guys here - for better or worse!
