Talking about our LDR too much hasn't made much sense for me, the main reason I joined this forum is the desperate desire to try and get some "answers" or may be at least, to be recomforted we are not the only ones...
About us:
I'm a belgian, living in Belgium, 35 years.
My fiancé is a Kenyan, trying to make a living in U.S., Chicago, 31 years.
How we met...
He lived in Belgium for a couple of years. We started dating here a couple of years ago.
How we got into a LDR...
Shortly after we got more serious, he decided to quit his job to go back to the U.S., where he had lived when he was younger. Since he is a Kenyan, he didn't have a job, and we didn't apply for the visa correctly, he was refused a visa when he wanted to come back to see me. We tried 2 more times but it didn't work out.
Blame it on the man... ;-)
We've been in a LDR for more than 2 years now. I'ld love to go to Chicago to see him there, but there is always one or another reason why it is not possible for me to travel there. So we have always ended up seeing eachother in Kenya.
Ever since he left Belgium, he hasn't been able to find a permanent job. Nowhere. He lives with a friend in Chicago who is moving to another state for his new job so he can't stay there. That's why he is 'forced' to move back to Kenya because I didn't like the idea he'ld go and live with a (female single) friend of his.
We've had enough of the distance and the absence of future. We've been trying to start a life together. A family, perhaps, which is stressful because I'll be 36 next Summer and the clock is ticking... Tick tick tick...
Last month I was planning to propose to him, but 'of course' he ruined it so we ended up discussing (skype) about the marriage until he finally said 'yes'. So now the issues about the marriage have started because of the denial of his visa-application some years ago, I am worried it will be seen as an "arranged marriage" and he will still be denied a visa (especially because we want a small wedding, just the two of us) to come and live with me, or wherever we find a job. I thought getting married'ld a period of at least now and then looking forward to, but it is causing even more stress and pressure on our relationship.
Anyway, after all, we are 2 happy people trying to be positive and optimistic about our future, even though it doesn't sound like that...
