Jazzy Saying Hi From New York!

    Hello Everyone

I came across this website just recently and I'm glad I found it because I've been struggling a bit. This is honestly my first LDR and the fact that you guys are here brings me so much comfort because this LDR has been quite hard for us. We're not giving up though because we just love each other so much! I always swore I would never be in a long distance relationship because I just thought it would never work. But when you meet someone who is truly special and worth fighting for these beliefs go out the window.

So some story time..I met my boyfriend through a dating app just this past summer. We were actually both not looking for anything serious. After we matched, he messaged me and we spoke to each other for a couple of weeks before meeting. I was actually not even considering it. But I thought what the heck, this could be fun because he was only in New York for an internship until the end of the summer before he had to go back to school. Well, our first date was one of the greatest first dates ever and since that day we decided to just keep on hanging out everyday until he had to go back to Seattle. We truly enjoyed each other's company and we immediately started feeling the feels. So the day finally came that he had to go and we said our good-byes. I really wasn't expecting him to keep in touch but he did. We both knew that there was something special. We talked everyday since the day we met even while he was in China for a month visiting his family. That was most especially hard. We really realized then that this was real because we were both on different continents still longing for each other. This was when I decided I would go visit him in Seattle in early October and that's when we made it official! We will also meet again in December and I can not wait!

Even though we are so happy sometimes its just difficult you know? Another concern is that if he doesn't land a job here in the US within a year after graduation this upcoming May, he will have to return to China. We both agreed if that were the case, we would make it work. So far things are great and now that I have found this community, it will help me through those difficult moments!

    Hi there!
    And welcome to the Forum!

I'm from Germany and my SO is from the US, so I have some US-visa-knowledge and just wanted to let you know, there is another way for him not to have to leave the US to go back to China, even if he does not find a Job in time.

If you get married while he is on his student visa, you can adjust status (from non Immigrant, to Immigrant) while he waits in the USA. He would not have to return to China. Of course, getting married it a big step to take in any relationship, but I just wanted to throw it out there.
I wish my SO and I could have gotten married while I was on my student visa over there, but it didn't work out that way. Now we have to wait apart while the visa is processing.

      Hi!

Thank you so much for this very helpful information. We’re definitely still just at the beginning of our relationship and that is quite a huge step but this is still good to know! I really do love him.

I’m so sorry that it didn’t work out that way. I really hope that pretty soon you guys can be together! How long ago did you apply for a visa?

We got married last month on my visit to the US and are now waiting for our marriage certificate to arrive in the mail so we can finally send the package of paperwork in. It's gonna be about a year wait from when we can file....
We started daiting in January of 2015 while I was on my student visa. I left that June and ever since we have been visiting each other back and forth. It's been a long time apart and we are ready to be together forever!

Aw!! Congrats to the both of you! Well, having to wait some more is so disappointing but at least there's a solid closing the distance plan there! Until then sit tight, good things are yet to come! So happy for you and your SO. I wish you the absolute best. This gives me lots of hope!

            Thank you very much!
            Whishing you the best, too!

Solid plans to Close the distance are important, but what's even more important in my opinion is being able to openly communicate about anything that's on your mind. Everyone has the same worries and feeling not alone is important.
