Hi all - I've lurked here for a week or so, just trying to learn to cope. I left my partner 1500 miles away for the summer to go and study at university here in New York, and then I'm headed 7500 miles away from him to study for the year in Jerusalem. We've been together for more than three years now, and so for me to do this now, as we were beginning to make more serious plans, has basically been the equivalent of throwing our relationship into the frying pan.
We've been apart for two and a half weeks now, and I have to say that it was a rough start. In all the times I've moved across the globe for various things, I've never been homesick - until now. Although, I suspect that the more accurate word is heartsick.
We're looking at being apart for a maximum of a year and a half, no more. So, I thought the smart thing to do would be to reach out for support in your lovely community here. Thanks for being on this journey with me
