My name is Claire and I met my boyfriend in Fiji about nine months ago. I was working on a service project, and he lives in the city i was working in. We both knew right away that we really liked each other, and after a week we became official (to each other). I'm still not yet 18 so I'm not technically an adult, so we couldn't really announce our relationship to anyone other than our friends.
When I left we told each other that we would stay true to each other, and for me it has been a challenging year. We get to skype about once a month, and write letters and sometimes chat on the phone. My friends and family are not all super supportive about the relationship because I am still so young in retrospect, and they think it is a fling. I think they are just worried for me, cause we have so vast a space between us, and they know that can be very challenging. But despite all of this, its worth it [=

That's awesome about Fiji- I have a lot of family there. It's a beautiful country, though it's a shame about what's happening with the government. I hope your boyfriend stays safe!
