I dislike people using babe, hun, dear etc to anyone that they aren't in a relationship. Especially when girls use it, it seems to come off as really condescending. I was working somewhere and some guy probably years younger then me said something along the lines of 'Can you put those boxes over there dear' I wanted to smack him. it just seems more inappropriate then anything. If someone called my SO babe I wouldn't be bothered but I might wonder why they are so inclined to call everyone they meet or know pet names.

My boyfriend had a 'twitter wife'. It was their gimmick I guess, but it was just a joke, there was nothing genuinely flirty about it. They started it before we got involved, and all the 'babe' and 'honey' had always been tongue in cheek. So I guess it all depends on the context.
Tbh, I'd be more annoyed if my friends or family members were stalking my boyfriend's profile and reporting him to me. It'd make me feel like there's not just us in the relationship.

I haven't had to deal with this ever and probably never will, but I would definitely feel weird calling my male friends a pet name. I love them to absolute death and count some of them among my best friends in the world, but I wouldn't go around calling them hun, dear, babe etc. Those names are reserved for my SO.

The girl my SO cheated on me with still calls him "babe" on his facebook page from time to time. Things have changed a lot in 2 years and I know he's at the point where he avoids her in social situations because she's so clingy...but it still makes me cringe. I often still have the urge to respond to her posts with "BACK OFF MY MAN YOU'RE UGLY AND NOBODY LIKES YOU" but...I'm the better of the two of us. My boyfriend knows where everyone stands. Neither he nor I would call anyone else babe and thats the more important thing.
As far as facebook is concerned, in my opinion (and this goes for anyone, not just relationships) you can't judge the person for what someone else posts on their profile.
IRL its similar...its more important that HE isn't calling anyone else babe, not necessarily seeing him be called babe.

UMMMMM. IDK. Other than my SO, only one other person calls me babe and he is gay so there is no threat and it is usually when he is saying thank you for something. But if it was anyone else... i think that would be a bit odd.Got together Jan 3, 2011~ Closed the Distance March 23, 2012~ Living Together Since June 19 2012~ Future TBD......
