Travel Plans Ruined By... Jury Duty?

Soo... I just got my first jury summons. And it's for the middle of the week I was supposed to be visiting my SO. Plans have already been made. If I have to go to this stupid summons, I won't be able to see my SO at all that week.

I'm a student, so I could usually get out of it, but because they know that week is my college's spring break, I may not be able to.

I am so incredibly upset. Anyone have any advice?

Do you have a plane/train ticket, hotel receipt, or any other travel docs? If you can prove you had previous travel plans, they'll let you out of it. Even email confirmation/itineraries would be really useful. If you have any of that, just give them a call, let them know the situation, and find out how they'd like the proof sent to them.

The problem is that my SO is flying out to visit me and my roommmate before spring break. Then during the break my roommate, SO, and I are driving down to Houston for a week. Then my roommate and I will drive back up to Colorado.

Oh wow I'm sorry to hear that! I would try calling the jury coordinator asap and telling them you are a student, and the fact that you will be going out of town during that week. I read the jury selection process is computerized so they might not know you are on break that week. Who knows they might change your jury date (if you say you are willing to participate in the future but can't at that time).

My brother got summoned when he was a student. He ended up not even getting chosen to sit on the jury after he went in and got questioned and what not. Hopefully if calling doesn't work they don't choose you after being questioned. Big hugs to you! Crossing my fingers you find a way out of jury duty!

I would try to play the student card. They let you out if school's in session so I'm not sure how it works during spring break. Call the jury selection people and explain that you're a student. I was summoned once and didn't even know because my mom handled it. Are you going to stay in any hotel's while you're visiting your SO? Maybe you could make a reservation at one for the day you're being summoned. Good luck! I hope you can get out of it!
