What kind of phones do you each have?

There are all types of texting plans through your respective providers that should offer an international plan. However, what it is even better is would be just to use a messenger service that links into your data plan. All you guys need are two smart phones and then just find a messenger that you like. If you have Google accounts, Google Talk is free on every smart phone out there.

LoveJ and I have Blackberrys. Their Blackberry Messenger, which is a proprietary messenger that they run themselves, is free unlimited text to any other blackberry device anywhere in the world. We are separated by international borders too so that is a huge life saver for the times when we can't really talk. Even being hours apart, the keyboards on BBs allows us to have some very good conversations.

There are ways to communicate, you just need to use your imagination. Even a time gap of 5 hours should give you guys plenty of time to send messages back and forth, keep up e-mails and what have you. Communication is key to keeping any relationship connected and fresh. And that is even more true in a long distance relationship, where communication is really all you have.

Ask him about how he feels about you being there, because when you pull the layers back, I don't think he's very happy. That doesn't mean you guys can't make it work. But you have to deal with that issue before you deal with the smaller ones.
