Mine is top of the line value about 2000USD but I got it for maybe 800USD so you could maybe find a toshiba valued 600USD for only 200USD

    Firstly you have to think carefully about this friend situation and I'd suggest reading my post in case it's what I said, I agree that they might not change soon but in their head they might feel as though they are looking out for you even though it hurts, tough love. Also, netbooks are ok but don't do everything laptops can do and they can be cheap however they are just not as good and using peripherals like webcam and microphone for skype/msn may be a lot slower because the hardware just can't handle it, even if it's one of those webcams that is part of the laptop.

    My laptop is by a company called Advent, it is extremely powerful and fast, it runs on Vista which is rubbish and so is windows7 so try to get windowsXP if you can. Also mine is powerful for most programs but I can't play games on it (disk games, flash games that run inside firefox/internetexplorer, work fine) which is fine for me cos I have a PS3. Also, don't get linux as it is difficult to get used to. And don't get a mac as they are overpriced, they are excellent yes, but not if you're on a budget at all. As I said in my post, try to get a refurbished laptop good luck

    bolding that part, tough love? nooo no real friend would keep doing that to you, like Tanja said frends are supposed to be happy and support you no matter what, especially if your in a relationship that makes you happy and you know that nothing bad is gonna happen. you dont need "friends" like that in your life

      okay, yeah, the friend thing is weird, she's been like that since high school. I don't really wanna start an argument in the thread over who thinks I should do what about my friend situation. ^^;; that I was mainly just venting about because I was stressed. Sorry. ^^;

      Now, I'm wanting to play games like Sims 3, Bioshock, possibly Mass Effect (played a little of that at Alex's house and would like to see more of it, I was just a horrible shot). Hence why I'm thinking Asus because they're good choices for gaming laptops. Toshiba works too but Asus are the best. Netbooks won't work for me and I don't want to deal with Dell anymore. I just don't.

        Have you had problems with Dell before? I've heard some awful stuff about their customer service. I've only ever had dells and have had a terrific experience with them but it seems the majority of people have problems. I think I'm just lucky.

        (I'm playing Sims 3 and bioshock and oblivion on mine right now, works like a dream!)

          well, the computer I have right now is a Dell Inspiron 1525. The left hinge on the screen has broken three times, it's crashed (completely, where i had to reinstall the operating system) 4 times, the fan died on me earlier this year, it's running Vista on 1 gig of RAM (a miracle that it even turns on, really), and I have about 1% of my memory available to use because of Vista.

            Yeah my friend has the exact same laptop as you and his screen hinge broke as well, and his fan broke too! He couldn't get a refund or anything because he only had a year's warranty or something. I hope nothing bad happens with my lappy; I've had it a year and a half now. I hate microsoft operating systems (yay for ubuntu) but sadly I need it for various applications. They use up so much power!

              well then I agree with whoever said the friend is not a true friend if they have been like that since high school!

              and as for the laptop, ok all I will say one last time is get pre-owned or refurbished

              btw mass effect is my favourite game of all time! beat super mario bros on the NES, it's that good :O

              and vista does suck, my memory is 2GB Ram and it uses about a third of it just to run the OS!!! So I have no chance of playing games on mine :P also it has no graphics card, just the integrated graphics for intel celeron dual core so quite powerful but poo graphics. Wish I still had XP but my old laptop which was using stolen :P XP wouldnt let me use MSN or whatever so just left this one with vista

              also maybe see about buying all the parts yourself and putting it together yourself?

              anyway I hope you can see that the general agreement on the thread is to get the laptop

                  Vista works fine for me, it doesn't depend on the computer, what I'm saying is that it takes up a lot of RAM which is true, you can check on the microsoft website! :P it runs perfectly fine on my laptop, just XP is better because it takes less memory up

                    ^ I second that. My laptop has only 1 gig of RAM so it's basically a miracle that it runs at all.

                      Acer is also a good choice btw and if you wanna play demanding games make sure you put your money in the graphic card cause that's what you're gonna need the most when gaming. Go for double core processor (they might actually be only ones available in the top lappies) and also get at least 1Gb of RAM. Also Ubuntu is a great choice for gamer cause it won't use much CPU and it doesn't need any anti-virus programs or firewalls running in the background so that leaves more CPU usage for gaming - most new games work just fine on Linux!

                      I have an Acer Aspire myself and it would be a dream to game on if I had a decent graphic gard but mine's rubbish lol.
