Honestly it would be better if the guy actually solved the maze, ya know symbolizing that he'll do anything and try his best to get to her. Not just cheat his way there without earning it.

I think it's more meant to mean that a huge obstacle can easily be overcome if you just put your mind to it.. that's how I understood it

Yeah that's how most people see it I guess, but that same meaning can be seen if he "put his mind" to solving the maze which would in fact that more will power than going around it. :P
