Hi everyone!
I finally arrived in Minnesota yesterday. I should have been there on Monday, but there were a lot of problems...
Monday, 2 pm. We're all in the plane, it starts driving super fast and then suddenly brakes. We slowly taxi to the side again. There is some technical problem, and they have to get a mechanic.
3 pm. I start to freak out because I only have 1,5 hours in Iceland to get my connecting flight. The problem doesn't look good and we all have to get out of the plane again.
In the mean time, I had burst out into tears about three times because it was my first time flying alone and we were supposed to close the distance. I had no idea how it was all going to go once I would arrive in Iceland.
The times kept changing, but eventually we started boarding the same (repaired) plane at 7 pm. A 5 hour delay, and everyone had missed their connecting flights by that time. I had had some desperate phonecalls with my family, they assured me that Icelandair had to take care of everything and that they should arrange a hotel for everyone. The thought of spending the night alone in Iceland freaked me out, but I didn't have a choice.
So at 7.30, we finally left. When we arrived we immediately got our new plane tickets and a voucher for a hotel, transport, breakfast and lunch. Luckily, I was in a hotel with a lot of other people from the flight, so we could go together. I was put on the same flight to Minnesota, but then a day later.
The next day, I read my book, walked around the hotel (it was freaking cold and nobody was prepared for that, as most were going to the eastcoast of the USA) and then at 2 pm we were finally taken back to the airport. The flight took forever, and I was so excited and nervous!
When I got out of the plane, it took forever before my luggage came on the belt though... But then I walked out of the doors and my SO's sister ran up to me. His mother was there too, and they took me to my SO at work (he's a camp counselor on a playground, that night was the carnival to end the season.) It was super awkward because we both just wanted to kiss each other but there were so many kids and parents... So we had to wait until we finally could go to his house.
That was my adventure, haha! But now we've finally closed the distance, yay!
